CKD Management Workgroup
Description
The CKD Management workgroup has focused on developing resources for nephrologists, nephrology physician extenders, and other nephrology clinic staff that focuses on augmenting an existing nephrology practice to improve practices in anemia management and early referral to surgeon for vascular access placement. The pilot workshop was presented on October 11, 2006 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The workshop was attended by over 40 participants, and many have since shared changes in practice as a result of attending the workshop. Two additional workshops were conducted in Detroit and Minneapolis. The group is brainstorming ways to further expand this education effort to reach additional nephrology offices.
Next, the group is focusing on developing resources for acute dialysis nurses that will help to improve vascular access placement for patients beginning dialysis treatment. A needs assessment has been developed to ask acute dialysis nurses what resources are available, and what resources are still needed in this area. The information gained from this needs assessment will be used to develop new education resources for acute dialysis nurses.
