To decrease the number of sticks within the dialysis unit by educating staff on needle stick prevention and protocol for sharps exposure.

• Complete the in-service training module Needlestick Prevention Point by Point.
• Complete the CDC's Baseline Program Assessment Worksheet (this worksheet should be adapted for use in your unit).

• Develop display board of sharps devices for your facility.
• Make an inventory list of sharps devices for your facility.
• Create a model exposure control plan for your facility.
• Complete the Needle Stick Prevention crossword puzzle (answer key) as a warm-up to your in-service.
• Complete all of Appendix A in the CDC Workbook Toolkit .
• Create an exposure treatment poster for your facility.
• Distribute the Sharps Safety for Healthcare Professionals brochure and/or hang CDC posters in your unit.

• Harvard University Sharps Safety Fact Sheet.
• NIOSH Alert: Preventing Needlestick Injuries in Health Care Settings.
• Active and Passive Safety Devices.
• Checklist for Exposure Prevention.

• 100% of staff in-serviced on needle stick prevention.
• Facility must complete the sample Baseline Program Assessment Worksheet.

After you have completed this module, and have documented the required measures, please submit the following documents via mail or fax.
